PATS (Paying Attention To Self)

PATS is an eight-week peer support program for young people aged 12-18 who have a parent with a mental illness. PATS is run by one of our qualified workers, alongside a young person who has been trained in leadership.  In PATS you will have an opportunity to find out everything you want to know about mental illness, coping strategies for when times get tough, who you can talk to, and most of all make new friends and have fun!

Once you are a part of PATS you will have an opportunity to attend our recreational days.  During the school holidays we offer various activities including surfing, laser force, horse riding and more.

In addition, you have the opportunity to join the PATS reference group.  This group works towards eliminating the stigmas associated with mental illness in the community. Over the years the PATS reference group has developed and launched projects including a photographic exhibition, a community mural, a range of t-shirts, a booklet of stories and coping strategies ('Through the Window') and a short film depicting the impact mental illness has had on their lives.

To find out more, or to join the PATS group, call Youth Services on 9294 6716 and ask to speak to the PATS worker.
