National Youth Week

2008 National Youth Week was celebrated over three whole weeks!

A popular annual celebration in the Shire of Yarra Ranges, National Youth Week encourages young people to share ideas, attend live events, have their say on issues of concern to them, showcase their talents and celebrate their contribution to the community.

The shire’s Youth Services department received a $2,000 grant from the Office of Youth to help with our National Youth Week celebrations, so there are some great things for young people to get involved in.

There were heaps of cool events and activities from the 26th of March until the 11th of April!  This year’s program, themed ‘Shout, Share, Live, Unite’ was packed full of exciting activities and events for young people aged 12-25 who live, work or study in the Yarra Ranges.

Highlights of  the shire’s National Youth Week celebrations will included:

·        The launch of an innovative antenatal resource ‘Hey Babe’ for young pregnant women with information on health and community service support – Tuesday, 8 April

·        Young Leaders Forum ‘Make Poverty History’ featuring 20 year old director from the Oaktree Foundation Tim O’Connor – Wednesday, 9 April

·        Bands Mania, a live music event at Healesville – Friday, 11 April

All Youth Services events and activities are fully supervised and smoke, drug and alcohol free.
