EVENT MANAGEMENT OPPORTUNITY

Are you a young person interested in music, culture, live bands, entertainment and event management?  Then Soundwave Productions might be just your thing.

Soundwave Productions, the Yarra Ranges Freeza committee, is looking for young people aged 15-21 to join the committee and to share their ideas and help organise community youth events.

The committee meets weekly at the Mooroolbark Community Centre from 4 until 5pm, from February to November. At these meetings, the committee discuss, plan & organise events and gigs for local young people ranging from dance parties & acoustic nights to Battle of the Bands and headliner events.

Youth Services’ Amanda Anthonisz said in addition to this, committee members also had the option of doing event management training (EMT). EMT gives them both theory and practical training for behind the scenes at events, where they'll learn setting up and operating a PA system, stage management, acoustics, lighting and much more.

"Once they've successfully completed the EMT course , the students will have completed three of the 12 units of competence which will give them advanced standing in the full certificate III or other Music Industry qualification.  This is a nationally recognised, accredited qualification, giving the students competence in a wide range of backstage functions."

Youth Services is also looking for promoters for all areas. Participants can earn money towards a gift voucher for helping to promote events.

A free information session on becoming a Soundwave committee member and the event management course will be held at the Mooroolbark Community Centre on Thursday 21 February 2008, from 4pm until 5.30pm.  Youth Services also has 3 other youth event committees based in the Belgrave, Healesville & Upper Yarra areas and are looking for new members for 2008.
