Young people in the Dandenong Ranges are in for some exciting entertainment this year with the new youth events committee Hilltop Sounds, up and running.
The Hilltop Sounds committee is made up of 12 young people from the Belgrave, Monbulk and Upwey areas. The group will play a key role in organising music and cultural events for young people in the area.
Youth Services team member and Hilltop Sounds Coordinator Andrew Scarborough said the committee members were excited about their first event.
“Hilltop Sounds have worked hard to put together their first-ever music event, Amplified, which will be held at Monbulk Community Centre on Friday 30 May. The event will feature three Melbourne bands Forgiven Rival, Best Before and San Salvador, as well as local bands Sinking Sea and Blinded by Desire.
“Amplified will be the first of many local youth orientated events Hilltop Sounds will organise this year.
“The committee is responsible for identifying the types of events of interest to other young people in the area and then organising them with the help of the Shire of Yarra Ranges’ Youth Services team.”
ndrew said the committee members were enjoying being a close knot team and were already gaining training and experience in event management.
“One committee member said he now wants to pursue a career in event management because he is enjoying being part of Hilltop Sounds so much.” Andrew said.
Amplified will run between 6:30pm to 10:30pm, tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.
All Youth Services events are fully supervised and drug and alcohol free.
