This new event committee was formed in 2007 with the aim of increasing events and activities in the Upper Yarra area! Static ran 4 night events in 2007 including a 70 / 80’s disco at the Yarra Centre in Yarra Junction, Static Nites featuring live local bands plus a karaoke sing star comp at the Warburton Mechanics Institute, a Rave dance party at Seville Public Hall, plus a Pool Party at the Yarra Centre. Other events run in 2007 included a DJ for National Youth Week at Upper Yarra Secondary School plus regular activities during the school holidays!
We are always looking for enthusiastic young people to bring fresh new ideas to the committee for school holiday activity ideas, school events, skate and bmx comps and loads more! The committee will have opportunities to work closely with the new Youth Foundations Victoria initiative, which has been launched in the Upper Yarra area to give young people a chance to apply for money in order to run fun events in their area!
make your mark on the local music scene
Are you part of an upcoming young band looking at making your mark on the local music scene? If so, the Winterfest Battle of the Bands competition on 20 June might be your ticket.
Demos or registrations are now being accepted from interested amateur youth bands who live, work or study in the Upper Yarra and Healesville regions and want to compete in the competition.
Battle of the Bands is a great opportunity for young bands to play in front of a live audience and display their talents while also being in the running to win some great prizes.
First prize includes $100 in cash and a guaranteed spot in the upcoming Freeza Push Start Battle series, while second prize winner will receive $50 cash.
Bands selected for the competition will receive promotional cards for their friends and family to hand in at the venue door – $50 cash will be given to the band with the most promo cards received at the door.
Entries for the Winterfest Battle of the Bands competition close on Friday 6th June.
